The Church’s existing roof was over 30 years old. They had experienced many shingles being blown off in high winds in the recent years due to the condition of the old materials. Church members would attempt to repair the roof as needed but it just became too numerous for them to continue to do. We gave the church a new roof bid. Based on what everyone thought, removing the present two layers of shingles was the best answer.
After our crew began tearing off the two layers of shingles, we found a layer 1 1/2′ of rigid insulation board underneath all of the shingles. Manufactures warranty specifications are new shingles can be installed over this type of insulation, therefore a layer of plywood sheathing had to be mechanically fastened over the entire roof before installing the new shingles.
We installed a layer of frac 12″ plywood sheathing and finally the new 50-year shingles with no further surprises and it looks wonderful.
The church should have many leak leak free years in their future.
